IEP Meeting Attendance

Meghan attends your IEP or eligibility meeting alongside you, an expert who knows the school's language, knows what to listen for, and knows how to respond in real time.

What this service covers

Under IDEA, you have the right to bring any individual with knowledge or special expertise about your child to an IEP meeting. Most parents don't use this right. The ones who do come out of meetings with more.

When Meghan attends your meeting, she's not just there as moral support. She knows what the school is required to say versus what they're choosing to say. She can recognize when a proposal doesn't meet IDEA standards. She can ask the follow-up questions that shift the conversation.

She's attended these meetings from the school side. She knows exactly what happens in the room, and she now brings that knowledge entirely to yours.

Who this is for

Families facing eligibility determinations, annual IEP reviews, reevaluations, or any meeting where the school has proposed significant changes. In-person for Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas plus SC. Via Zoom or phone for families anywhere in the US.

How it works

1
Pre-meeting prep
Before the meeting, Meghan reviews all documents and you meet to discuss what to expect, what the school is likely to propose, and what a strong outcome looks like.
2
At the table
Meghan attends the meeting alongside you — in person for Charlotte-area families, via Zoom or phone nationwide. She knows the school's language, follows the legal standards being applied, and can intervene when something doesn't add up.
3
After the meeting
You receive a written debrief summarizing what was agreed, what to watch for in the final document, and any recommended follow-up steps.

Common questions

Will the school push back on having an advocate? +

Schools must allow it by law. Under IDEA, you have the right to bring anyone with knowledge or special expertise to an IEP meeting. Some teams will ask who Meghan is — "my advocate" is sufficient.

Can Meghan attend virtually if we're not in Charlotte? +

Yes. Virtual attendance via Zoom or phone is available for families anywhere. The pre-meeting prep happens the same way.

What if the school proposes something we weren't expecting? +

This is exactly what the prep session is for — to anticipate what's coming and have a response ready. Meghan has been on the proposing side of these meetings. She knows what schools plan before families arrive.

Can Meghan speak during the meeting or just observe? +

She can and does speak. She's there as your advocate, not a silent observer. She'll ask clarifying questions, challenge vague language, and request specifics when needed.
